Life at BurdaLuxury – Shada Vijitkasemkij

As the Assistant Society Editor for Prestige Hong Kong, Shada brings her passion for storytelling and people into her role. Having moved to Hong Kong for her first job at BurdaLuxury, she has quickly adapted to the fast-paced dynamics of media. Her day-to-day routine includes networking, curating guest lists, and producing feature stories alongside a team she finds joy in connecting with both inside and outside the office. For Shada, working at Prestige Hong Kong is more than a job – it’s a meaningful milestone.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in editorial?
I interned at a publishing company during the pandemic and it was eye opening for me because I wasn’t a particularly strong writer at the time. The internship taught me so much about writing and how to be a better communicator. Coincidentally, the opportunity [to work in Prestige] came my way – I’ve always admired Prestige as the leading English publication in Southeast Asia, so I took the offer and it’s been a dream come true ever since!

How would you describe your role as Assistant Society Editor?
I would say one thing to describe it is people – you have to network, talk to new people and it’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re extroverted and like making new connections with experienced people from all sorts of industries. It’s my job to name everyone at events – to invite people and know which person should be invited to which event; which is quite ironic as I just moved here, it’s definitely an opportunity to get to know more people though!

How does it differ from your previous positions?
In my previous role, I never really had to pitch ideas on my own as I took on junior roles, people would give me tasks to do – this time around, I had to do tasks myself and execute ideas from scratch to fruition. Leading everything myself was a big leap for me, but I’m pretty much settled into a routine that works for me.

How would you describe the work culture at BurdaLuxury Hong Kong?
It’s a lot of fun because everybody is so supportive. My colleagues aren’t just colleagues – they’ve become friends that mean a lot to me. If the team wasn’t the way it is, I wouldn’t have stayed away from home for this long. We’d go out and have fun, you can tell everybody cares for each other.

What three words would you use to describe being part of Prestige Hong Kong?
Educational. Fun. Exciting.

What’s a professional milestone you’re particularly proud of?
I recently interviewed Aokbab Chutimon, which was very exciting for me personally. In my second month at Prestige Hong Kong, they asked me to write the cover story, which was a huge milestone I’m very proud of because it showed they trusted my knowledge very early on.

Who were some of your biggest influences growing up?
I had a really big admiration for Cara Delevigne – I think she’s so cool and she advocates for people being themselves. I resonate deeply with that.

What would you say is the best part of your role as Society Editor?
Meeting new people became one of my favourite parts for sure. I met my best friends through Prestige Hong Kong from attending events and parties, which has been a lot of fun.

Why BurdaLuxury?
Prestige has always been my dream company to work at, I don’t think  I see myself as a writer for other publications. It’s very clear and evident in the surroundings that everyone loves what they do – I admire the passion and talent of everyone in their roles.
