Life at BurdaLuxury – Tyler Lim

Tyler is the Social Media Manager for Prestige Malaysia and Prestige Singapore at BurdaLuxury. He keeps the brand’s social feeds sharp, up-to-date, and stylish by covering trends before they peak and updating events in real time. Curating stories through both data and instincts, he turns celebrity-focused content, beauty launches, and pop-culture conversations into digital sensations.

Tell us about your role.
My main role is to manage the socials for Prestige Malaysia and Singapore. My day to day looks like sourcing for content that’s relatable, what’s trending and what’s not, but also working on client projects such as attending events, and covering them in reels format or an IG stories format. How we do it is that every month we’d have a performance report, so that’s where I’d present and compile the data for Malaysia and Singapore.

What does a day in the office look like for you?
I’d need to have a cup of coffee before I go in and catch up on my emails. I make sure all the posts go up, have lunch with my colleagues, and depending on the day, I’d go to events. If there are events, I may have to pick up the slacks when I get home to schedule today or tomorrow’s postings.

What’s your proudest piece of content you’ve published for Prestige?
There’s a few! Can I give you more than one? For Singapore, I did a post on Becca Bloom – it’s not about her usual luxury lifestyle, it’s about the book recommendations she has for women, so that did quite well in terms of engagement and reach. Becca Bloom herself also liked the post on Instagram, so that’s a proud moment for me !

For Malaysia, it’s very celeb-driven, so during my second month at Burda, Win Methawin was here for Prada and I got to see him and publish directly at the event itself, so it was another win for me and felt quite nice.

What signature event do you most look forward to and why?
I enjoy beauty events more because you get to see the KOLs in action, usually they’re a little more fun and you get products! Food events are probably my second favourite.

How do you decide which content gets published – what makes a story worth telling for you?
In the beginning I was previously from advertising, so media is somewhat related but not something I’m used to. I learned a lot from editors from Singapore and Malaysia, and also as someone in the team, you learn from the numbers and engagements, if something does work you’re likely to try it again.

Your favourite social media platform to work on and why?
I’m always on TikTok before this because I like the randomness of the content. Burda is very Instagram-driven, so I started Instagram a bit more, but TikTok is always gonna be my favourite.

If your life had a theme song, what would it be?
A theme song… I kinda wanna use the theme song for Friends. I think that’s the kind of song I’d want to have played at my funeral. It’s like my wrap up song.

Three adjectives to describe BurdaLuxury?
Structured. Opportunistic. Luxury.

What would you tell someone who’s looking to join BurdaLuxury?
If you wanna work in the luxury magazine industry, you should work for the biggest one. That’s why you should work here.
