Tom Bureau appointed as CEO of BurdaInternational

Tom Bureau (52) is appointed as CEO of BurdaInternational which bundles the foreign activities of media and tech company Hubert Burda Media. He takes over responsibilities from Martin Weiss, who will focus on his role as a member of the executive board at Hubert Burda Media. The appointment will take effect on 7 June 2021. In his new role, Tom Bureau will focus on accelerating the growth of BurdaInternational across markets in Europe and Asia with a focus on content-driven businesses, new technologies and e-commerce.

In addition to his position as CEO of BurdaInternational, Bureau will continue in his current role as Executive Chairman of Immediate Media Co, the UK based special interest content and platform company, which was acquired by Hubert Burda Media in 2017.

Tom has more than 25 years’ experience of running world-class online content and cross-media companies. He was co-founder and CEO of Silicon Media Group in 1998, which was sold to CNET Networks, after which he ran CNET’s UK and European business. Bureau was the founding CEO of Immediate Media Group alongside Exponent Private Equity following the merger of Magicalia, Origin Publishing and BBC Magazines. Immediate own and publish some of the UK’s best loved and biggest magazine brands, including Radio Times and BBC Good Food. Under his leadership Immediate has doubled in size and revenues. Tom has been Chairman of the UK’s publishing trade body, the Professional Publishers Association (PPA), since 2020, and is Chairman of the Board of Frontline Group, the market leading magazine distribution group.

In his new role, Tom Bureau will work closely with Marie Stephan (37), CFO of BurdaInternational and Martin Weese (34) who is promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BurdaInternational with immediate effect. Martin Weese joined BurdaInternational as Head of Business Development & Strategy in 2019. In addition to this role, he assumed the COO role for Burda’s business in Asia. Prior to joining Hubert Burda Media, he worked in the consulting industry for Oliver Wyman and for the German media group Prosiebensat.1 Media as Director of Digital Strategy & Operations.

Alfred Heintze (65), who joined Burda in 2016 as COO of BurdaInternational, is retiring as of August 1st, 2021. He will continue to support BurdaInternational on specific projects and topics as an external consultant.
